Along the way, the site of the Etang de Bondy, nestling in the fir-clad hills, is surprisingly reminiscent of a mountain landscape. Along the way, the site of the Etang de Bondy, nestling in the fir-clad hills, is surprisingly reminiscent of a mountain landscape. For those who wish to extend their walk, the local authority has set up picnic tables and shelters at the Etang de Bondy. The bar-restaurant "Chez Nelly", in the centre of the village, is also a great place to grab a bite to eat before setting off. Exhibitions are held regularly at the Espace des Arts, located close to the church, which is also well worth a visit. The frescoes, stained glass windows and contemporary ceramics in the choir are the work of painter Father Bernard Chardon. The two elm sculptures on the high altar are the work of sculptor Alain Legros.
Leaving the village church, walk around the church to appreciate the restoration of the village wash-house, take the road to Javron-les-Chapelles, then climb a track on the right to the village of Grand Houx. Continue straight ahead, then after crossing two roads, enter a wood. Cross the D219 and continue towards the Etang de Bondy. After a steep climb towards Le Cruchet, turn right twice. At the next crossroads, take the furthest left. As you cross a stream on the left, you will see the remains of Château de Bazeilles, an 11th century feudal motte consisting of 2 earthen half-moons. After a fine final climb, the route joins a small road that leads gently down to the village, the starting point of the walk.
