Labelled a “City of Art and History,” Laval is a must-see during your trip!
Dominated by its medieval château and its ramparts, the city centre is full of medieval houses. One of them, ensconced in one of the gates of the fortifications, is the birthplace of Henri Rousseau. Works by the artist can be found at the Museum of Naive Art, which houses the finest collection in Europe.
From the port of Laval, boats go upstream towards Mayenne or down to Angers.
South of Laval: the Abbey of Notre Dame de Port du Salut (and its famous cheese) and the village of Entrammes, where Roman remains are still visible in the heart of the parish church.
