The south of Mayenne

Southern Mayenne

Château-Gontier is a great place to start your exploration of Mayenne.
Beautiful towns and villages, concealing treasures just waiting to be revealed.

Château-Gontier

One of the “most beautiful detours in France,” where towns and villages conceal treasures just waiting to be revealed!
The southern part of Mayenne has many of the flavours of Anjou, in particular  the white Loire stone buildings, such as like the magnificent Château de Craon and the Couvent des Ursulines in Château-Gontier.

From spring onwards, the country comes  to life with river tourism and cyclists along the river towpath, one of the most beautiful cycle paths in France.

Lots of unmissable places to visit, including the  Arche animal refuge, where mistreated animals (lions, bears and tigers among them) are nursed back to health and the Robert Tatin museum where you can discover the work of a truly original artist.
