With this treasure hunt, the Château-Gontier Tourist Office invites you to immerse yourself in the history of the town and discover its emblematic monuments along an 11-stage route.
Château-Gontier, a thousand-year-old town in Haut-Anjou, was built around the Mayenne River. In the 11th century, the site was chosen to defend and control an essential crossing point on the Mayenne between Anjou, Maine and Brittany. The town was built on the heights of the right bank around a fortified castle erected by Foulques III Nerra, Count of Anjou.
From the origins of the town to the present day, a journey of over 1,000 years awaits you!
