- HISTORY -
In 1452, Persigand was the site of a "causeway with a mill and fishery". After 1537, it was equipped with a marinière gate. By 1829, there were no mills. The canalisation of the Mayenne led to its destruction. It was replaced by a lock dam, the plan for which, drawn up by the Ponts et Chaussées engineer Du Jardin, was approved by the minister on 4 April 1865. The work, which had been postponed during the 1870-1871 war, began after being awarded for the second time on 15 July 1872 to the Souzay contractor René Limonier. They were followed by the ordinary engineer Lahougue. The river was opened to navigation in 1873, but was not finally handed over until 11 November 1877. A hydroelectric power station was built on the right bank in 1910. The lock-keeper's house was extended at the end of the 20th century.
