The famous Mansart and Le Nôtre were chosen to lend their talents.
Louis XIV used his personal funds to build this rare pearl, which was attributed to the Racapé family for their loyalty to the king and their loyal service to the crown.
This jewel, completed in 1725, stands in the rolling green countryside of the Mayenne region of Anjou.
Marked by the great classicism of its time and the talent of the architect, this grand edifice faces east. Its size is imposing. Its balance is seductive. At the centre of its beautiful façade in pure Louis XIV style, a double spiral staircase leads to a richly sculpted doorway.
Magnificent finials and original gargoyles adorn the roofs.
To the left, an elegant building once used as a wine cellar is adorned with a finely sculpted pediment featuring a cornucopia and vine tendrils.
On the west side, the facade opens onto the formal gardens. It is framed by the orangery and the hunting lodge.
Each of these is centred on a curved pediment depicting hunting scenes. These are framed by four triangular pediments depicting work in the fields, illustrating the four seasons.
