Situated on the banks of the Mayenne, on the site of a Gallic oppidum, the Port du Salut abbey has been home to a community of Cistercian Trappists since the monastery was restored in 1815.
The Priory, founded by Thibault de Mathefelon in 1233, was home to Canons Regular until they were expelled in 1791 during the French Revolution.
You can attend monastic services in the 13th-century abbey church. At the entrance to the monastery you can buy products made in the monastery and in other communities, as well as books and religious objects.
