The slate and geology museum is located on the Longchamp site. This was the last quarry in the Renazé basin, closed in 1975. The old buildings have been preserved. The centrepiece of this authentic heritage site remains the headframe of the extraction shaft and its astonishing engine room.
The guides will explain the different stages of mining. You'll discover the trolleys, collections of tools and giant photos of life down below. On the splitters' mound, the former slate quarry workers have reconstructed the "wind killers" of all eras. A whole world comes to life before your eyes, with its struggles, its sorrows and its distractions.
Visitors with motor disabilities welcome.
July and August open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays and public holidays from 2pm to 6pm; Saturdays open by reservation only.
