Gaël Thoreau has been a market gardener and cattle breeder since November 2012 at La PENGAUDERIE in the Coëvrons commune of Neau. My farm has the Organic Agriculture label and grows a variety of seasonal vegetables.
We use no pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, in line with organic specifications. The cows provide us with high-quality natural fertiliser as well as green manure, and rainwater is collected in a 2,000-cubic-metre reservoir that allows us to be independent of the drinking water network.
There are two of us working full time, plus an apprentice and two or three seasonal workers, depending on requirements, on an area of 3 hectares of diversified open-field vegetables and 2,000m² of tunnels.
I sell seasonal vegetables all year round from my premises, which are open on Fridays from 4.30pm to 6.30pm and Saturdays from 10am to 12.30pm. I also offer meat boxes 3 times a year.
