Discover the Moulin de Thévalles as part of the European Heritage Days.
The first mention of a mill on the River Erve belonging to Thévalles castle dates back to 1260. A second mill was built, with a house for the miller, in the 16th century. The Marquis de la ROCHELAMBERT, a pioneer of industry in Mayenne and owner of Thévalles, had a large 4-storey mill and the miller's house rebuilt in 1849-1850, modelled on what was done in England at the time. All the archives (agreement with the supplier of the mechanism, plans, correspondence enabling the work to be monitored, etc.) have been preserved. All the milling machinery and utensils are in place and working.
Guided tours of the mill at 10.30am, 2.30pm, 4pm and 5pm. Discover the superb 30-tonne mechanism in operation, spread over 4 levels. History of 8 centuries of milling. An exhibition of several hundred old objects from the rural world, entitled Mémoire Paysanne .
