This castle was built between 1496 and 1499 by Pierre de Rohan, Marshal of Gié. Like La Motte-Glain, built by the same person in the same troubled period following the Hundred Years' War, Mortier Crolles castle has the dual character of a defensive site and a residence for pleasure: The main building is still very Gothic in character (prismatic window mouldings, highly ornate dormer windows), although the very regular, symmetrical structure of the façade, on either side of an astonishing entrance porch, is already well advanced.
The guided tour includes the outside of the enclosure and a guided tour inside the enclosure: the main courtyard with the façade of the dwelling, the chapel, the cellars, which house a retrospective of the restoration work undertaken, the lower courtyard and the dovecote.
