The old causeway, whose existence is attested to at the end of the 11th century, ensured the operation of two mills: the Grand Pendu, on the right bank, and the Petit Pendu, on the left bank. Equipped with a sailgate in the 16th century, it was replaced in the 19th century by a lock dam. The project, drawn up by the Ponts et Chaussées engineer Dupuy, was carried out under the supervision of his successor Asselin by the contractor Genève-Brault, chosen in the tender held on 8 August 1860. The work was completed in 1862. A lean-to was added to the gable of the lock-keeper's house in the second half of the 20th century.
