Les Nuits de la Mayenne present the play Bel-Ami by the Compagnie Les Joues Rouges
A travelling festival combining theatre, dance, circus and street arts, Les nuits de la Mayenne has been touring the department
since 1973. From mid-July to mid-August, the festival goes out to meet the locals, seeking to
heritage through live entertainment.
The show :
Paris in the 1880s. A penniless young provincial, Georges Duroy arrives in the capital with the ambition of making a name for himself. Working his way up through the ranks of the newspaper La Vie Française, the opportunist becomes a pen who makes and breaks reputations. But behind this façade lies a man with limitless ambitions, ready to do anything to succeed. As he climbs the social ladder, five heroines take it in turns to initiate and help him in his career, working behind the scenes. Successively seducing these influential women, they all give him the nickname of "Bel-Ami" and allow him to rise above his condition.
In this race-against-the-clock adaptation of Maupassant's work, Les Joues Rouges paints a portrait of 19th-century Parisian society whose vices still resonate today.
