Route of the Jewels of Mayenne

Discover some beautiful old buildings and unique gardens. The Jewels of Mayenne (joyaux de la Mayenne) has everything the keen explorer is looking for.

The Mayenne has the most inhabited private châteaux anywhere in France, and this trail highlights some of its hidden gems.

The Quatre Pa(s) association has created a tourist circuit connecting twelve major heritage sites.

Travel back through time

The theme is quality in diversity.

Travelling through Mayenne from north to south, you’ll discover the châteaux, parks, gardens, manors, and watermills that make up the rich patchwork of the region’s heritage. You’ll travel from the Middle Ages (13th century) to the 19th century, via the Renaissance.

The common theme resides with the owners of these fine buildings, all committed to sharing their passion for their country piles with visitors. You’ll often find them tending to their grounds, and they’re always delighted to stop for a chat.

Castle events

In addition to the regular guided tours, events are organised throughout the year:

Try the escape game (Château de la Rongère), exhibitions and works of art in the gardens (Château des Arcis), concerts (Château de Bourgon), theatre, historical re-enactments and the spectacular “Vertigo” experience at the Château de Lassay.

Some sites also offer reception rooms for hire and rent their gardens for weddings and events (château de Craon, château de Hautesrives, château de Bourgon, manoir de Favry)

Some also offer the possibility of staying in guest rooms or lodges (château de Craon, château de Bourgon, manoir de Favry), a great way to experience the posh life.
