Seen from the quayside Mayenne Castle , with its succession of towers and curtain-walls, is an impressive feature in the town’s urban landscape, but it’s by no means the only point of interest.
The Castle's museum houses many treasures, including a collection of game tokens made of bone that is unique of its kind.

Places to explore
The Place Cheverus: bordered by many private town houses dating from the 17th and 18th centuries, evidence of the prosperous past of the old ducal citadel.
The Chapel of the Calvairiennes  the last remaining vestige of an enormous 17th-century convent. It is now used for exhibitions, mainly devoted to contemporary creative arts.
The Church of Saint Martin, a splendid 11th-century edifice in red granite.
The Basilica of Notre Dame, which dates from the 12th, 16th and 19th centuries, and its statue of La Vierge des Miracles.
The Place de Hercé with its former 17th-century Ducal Law Court and its octagonal fountain.
The Convent of the Visitation, covering more than two hectares right in the centre of the town.

Main Summer Events
“Arts’borescences”: shows, concerts and street arts all around the town, at the end of June.
“The Summer of 6 Thursdays”: 6 open-air concerts in the town of Mayenne, from mid-July to the end of August.
In addition, the cultural centre known as the kiosque  will be putting on a top-quality programme throughout the year.

The Mayenne Tourist Office regularly organises guided tours of the town.
